The City of Covina is seeking individuals interested in serving the Covina community through a career in law enforcement. The Police Recruit is an entry-level, non-safety position that participates in departmental training and orientation programs, including attending a Police Academy.
The Police Recruit classification is designed for police officer candidates in a non-sworn status during initial police academy training. Successful candidates will be appointed and sworn in as probationary police officers with full authority upon completing academy training. Candidates will be expected to complete an 18-month probationary period from hire date. Responsibilities include:
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; prior law enforcement experience and college coursework in criminology or related fields are desirable.
License/Certificates:
Knowledge of criminology, criminal justice system, laws, and police practices. Ability to complete POST academy, interpret laws, perform calculations, organize work, work independently and in teams, make decisions, communicate effectively, and establish relationships.
Skills include operating office software, law enforcement equipment, firearms, and police vehicles safely and effectively.
Position involves prolonged physical activity, working outdoors in all weather, potential hazards, and lifting at least 25 pounds.
