Job summary

The City of Saint Paul invites applications for the Police Officer role with the Saint Paul Police Department. Successful applicants will engage with the community to promote safety, uphold the law, and participate in patrols, emergency response, and traffic regulation.

The position emphasizes equity, collaboration, and professional conduct in public service. Applicants must meet Minnesota licensure requirements, hold a valid Minnesota Class D license, and have no serious criminal history.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Peace Officer in Minnesota by September 9, 2027.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state driver's license.
• Must have no felony convictions, including pardons and/or expungements, criminal convictions of gross misdemeanor or equivalent level, physical assault, domestic assault, or eluding the police convictions.

Responsibilities

• Performs community engagement work involving safety and protection of the community; builds trust and nurtures legitimacy between the police and the community.
• Preserves peace, regulates traffic, patrols assigned areas, provides emergency services, and monitors, prevents and controls neighborhood crime.
• Initiates and participates in community engagement activities to foster positive community relationships.
• Maintains knowledge of the city and is invested in and respects Saint Paul’s citizens, neighborhoods and cultures.
