Job summary

The City of Saint Paul is seeking a Police Officer to join the Saint Paul Police Department. The role focuses on community engagement, public safety, and maintaining trust with residents across diverse neighborhoods.

You will patrol assigned areas, respond to emergencies, and participate in outreach activities while upholding empathy, accountability, and transparency. Applicants must meet Minnesota licensure requirements and be prepared for a demanding, rewarding career.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Peace Officer in Minnesota by September 9, 2027.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License or equivalent out-of-state license.
• Must have no felony convictions, including pardons and/or expungements, criminal convictions of gross misdemeanor or equivalent level.

Responsibilities

• Performs community engagement work involving the safety and protection of the community; builds trust and nurtures legitimacy between the police and the community.
• Works to preserve peace, regulate traffic, patrol assigned areas, provide emergency services, and monitor, prevent and control neighborhood crime.
• Initiates and participates in community engagement activities to foster positive community relationships.
• Maintains knowledge of the city, and is invested in and respects Saint Paul's citizens, neighborhoods and cultures.
• Demonstrates empathy, accountability, and transparency to deliver trusted service with respect.
• Attends City meetings and consults with leaders in both business and residential communities.
