Job summary

The City of Brevard Police Department is seeking Part-Time Police Officers to help cover patrol shifts and assist with special events. This is an as-needed position with hours scheduled based on departmental need and officer availability.

This role performs general law enforcement duties designed to partner with the public to prevent and detect crime, address traffic safety, and respond to citizens. A Basic Law Enforcement Certificate is required, with eligibility to certify through NC CJESTC,

Qualifications

• Possession of a Basic Law Enforcement Certificate.
• Ability to become certified as a law enforcement officer through the NC CJESTC.
• Before sworn duties, must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license and meet minimum CJESTC requirements.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas by car or on foot to deter crime and ensure public safety.
• Respond to disturbances, incidents, and citizen needs in a timely manner.
• Assist with traffic control and safety during events and patrols.
• Investigate routine incidents and support enforcement activities as needed.
• Collaborate with the public and other agencies to prevent crime.

Position Summary
This position performs a full range of general law enforcement duties designed to partner with the public to prevent and detect crime, address traffic safety issues, and respond to the needs of citizens. Work includes patrolling the City during an assigned rotating shift in a police car or on foot; preventing, detecting, and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; and executing related assignments.

Possession of a Basic Law Enforcement Certificate and ablility to become certified as a law enforcement officer through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission

Special Requirements: Before assignment to sworn duties, employees must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license and have completed at least the minimum requirements established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission for certified law enforcement officers.
