Position Summary

The Police Officer assists in protecting life and property by enforcing all State, Federal laws, and University regulations on the properties of Concordia University Texas. This position involves shift work, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Position Functions

1. Protection of life and property

• Provide regular building checks and patrols on campus. Patrol and monitor all campus buildings and facilities, locking/unlocking as needed. Patrol may include foot, vehicle, and Polaris patrol.
• Protect life and property on owned or controlled properties, ensuring safety for persons and property.
• Provide safety and security services to faculty, staff, students, and visitors as needed.
• Respond to all emergency and non-emergency calls on campus.
• Work closely with Student Life and Residence Life regarding security and safety in on-campus housing.
• Maintain communication with APD officers assigned to the campus.
• Respond promptly and effectively to incidents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Enforcement of laws and university policies

• Maintain knowledge of traffic and penal laws; enforce them on campus.
• Manage and maintain evidence according to laws and policies.
• Investigate suspicious activities reported or observed.
• Enforce university rules and regulations.

Initial investigations and reporting

• Respond to calls within jurisdiction or as requested by law enforcement.
• Assess situations, conduct interviews, make arrests, and file reports.
• Assist outside agencies when incidents occur outside university jurisdiction.

Professional Development

• Knowledge of productivity software (Microsoft Office, Adobe CS).
• Valid Texas Driver’s License.
• Complete annual TCOLE training and firearms qualification.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Some college coursework, especially in criminal justice, preferred.
• At least 2 years police experience, college experience preferred.
• Knowledge of police procedures and regulations.
• No convictions for DUI/DWI, misdemeanors involving moral turpitude, or felonies.
• Ability to work independently and interact positively with campus community.
• High integrity and confidentiality.
• Availability for major campus events.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, lifting, restraining, and performing physical force as needed.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, day or night.
• Subject to driving record review biennially.
