Job summary

The City of Battle Creek is actively seeking qualified applicants for Police Officer positions. Applications are invited only from those currently enrolled or who have graduated from an accredited police academy or who have law enforcement experience.

Interviews are scheduled on an ongoing basis. Candidates must meet state licensing requirements and be legally able to work in the United States. Benefits are outlined in the City policy and union contracts.

Qualifications

• Bilingual preferred.
• Legally able to work in the United States.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned area on foot or in a radio-equipped cruiser to prevent crime and maintain order.
• Responds to dispatches, enforces state and local laws, and directs traffic.
• Investigates suspicious activities; interviews witnesses, victims and suspects; conducts searches; arrests violators.
• Serves criminal processes including warrants and subpoenas.
• Writes and issues tickets for infractions; maintains scene safety and order.
• Obtains and preserves evidence; testifies in court; assists in prosecutions.
• Maintains vehicle and equipment; assists other agencies as needed.
• May be assigned to investigations or special operations.
