Job summary

The City of Fredericksburg, Virginia is hiring a Police Officer (Certified Lateral) to join the Fredericksburg Police Department. Under general supervision, officers perform general law enforcement duties to preserve the public peace and protect lives and property.

The role includes patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, and community engagement. Starting salary ranges from $64,000 to $95,905 DOQ for full-time, 40 hours per week with benefits.

Qualifications

• Current Virginia DCJS Certified officer with 3 years’ experience.
• No more than two moving violations within previous 24 months.
• No revocations or suspensions within previous 60 months due to moving violations.
• Background check including fingerprint-based criminal history inquiries.
• Must complete physical examination after conditional offer.
• Polygraph examination required.
• Must complete Lawfit course.

Responsibilities

• Patrol city streets, river bank, parks to deter crime and protect the public.
• Investigate traffic accidents and enforce traffic laws, assist motorists.
• Interview witnesses, gather information, and preserve evidence.
• Engage in community service and promote the department’s image.
• Collaborate with other agencies and assist prosecutors in court.
• Complete paperwork and maintain police vehicles and equipment.
