Job description

The City of Fairburn Police Department is accepting applications for a Police Officer position. The Police Officer is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the enforcement of laws, the protection of persons and property, the prevention of crimes; controlling vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow and enforcing State and local regulations; performing specialized police work involving detection, investigation, and prosecution of criminal offenders; and supporting the Police Department through technical and administrative tasks.

Hiring Pay Rates
  • Police Recruit (8-hour shift): $25.07 Hourly ($52,143.75 annually)
  • Police Officer Certified (12-hour shift): $26.26 Hourly ($57,358.13 annually)
Job Summary

The Police Officer is responsible for law enforcement duties, community safety, and administrative tasks supporting the Police Department.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Patrol assigned areas to deter crime, respond to alarms, and maintain community visibility.
  2. Enforce laws and regulations, including traffic, criminal, and civil laws.
  3. Investigate traffic violations, accidents, and enforce DUI laws.
  4. Secure crime scenes, assist in evidence collection, and testify in court.
  5. Respond to suspicious activities, report hazards, and assist animals.
  6. Serve warrants and subpoenas, and coordinate with court personnel.
  7. Detect, collect, and store evidence; process and transport prisoners and suspects.
  8. Operate police equipment and vehicles, and participate in training and physical fitness activities.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED, with coursework in police science or criminal justice preferred; or equivalent experience.

Licenses or Certifications: Valid Georgia driver’s license and Georgia Law Enforcement P.O.S.T. certification.

Special Requirements: Completion of probationary period, background check, and drug testing; safety-sensitive position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of law enforcement methods, laws, and procedures.
  • Ability to think quickly, act under stress, and establish effective relationships.
  • Skill in using police equipment and firearms.
  • Ability to prepare reports and interpret laws.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
