The Pleasanton Police Department is committed to protecting life, preventing crime, and enhancing community quality of life. It is organized into three divisions: Operations, Investigations, and Support Services. The Operations Division includes patrol, Traffic Unit, and ARU. The Investigation Division manages Criminal Investigations, Youth and Community Services, Personnel and Training, and Special Enforcement, along with Community Outreach and social media. It also provides in-service training and courses to meet POST standards. The Support Services Division includes Dispatch and Records, managing public records.
The department offers collateral assignments such as SWAT, K-9, CSI, CNT, among others.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or G.E.D., desirable college coursework in criminology or related fields, and a valid Basic Certificate from P.O.S.T. at appointment. Must be at least 21, have 20/100 vision correctable to 20/30, normal color vision, and no significant hearing loss. Must possess or obtain a valid Class C driver’s license and pass background checks, drug, medical, psychological, and polygraph tests.
