Norman City Clerk seeks a qualified police officer to protect the Norman community, enforcing laws, handling investigations, and patrolling assigned areas. The position requires strong decision-making, integrity, and physical fitness.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a law enforcement vehicle and conduct traffic stops.
  • Make arrests on criminal and traffic offenses and file required reports.
  • Use a firearm proficiently and conduct criminal investigations.
  • Respond to high-stress or emergency situations and testify in legal proceedings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Age:

Applicantmustbe21yearsofage,andnotover45yearsofage(unlesspriormemberoftheOklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System).


EducationandExperience:

Highschooldiplomaorequivalent.Collegehours preferred.


LicenseandCertifications:

Validdriver’slicense.Out-of-stateapplicantsmustobtainanOklahomaDriver’s license as required by Police Department, if selected.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

EssentialFunctions:

Enforcestateandfederallaws,cityordinances,andtrafficlaws;operatealawenforcement vehicle; make arrests on criminal and traffic related offenses and obtain information for required reports; use a firearm proficiently; conduct criminal investigations; conduct vehicle accident investigations; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; engage in law enforcement patrol functions; respond immediately to emotional, high stress, or physically taxing situations without warning; and perform related duties as required. AbilitytotestifyinlegalproceedingswithnoconflictinrelationtoU.S.SupremeCourtBradyV.Maryland, 373 U.S. 83 (1963).


MentalandPhysical Abilities:

Ability to obtain CLEET certification.Perform work in emergency situations involving hazardous conditions andusediscretionintakingaction.Analyzecomplexandunknownsituations,determinealternativestrategies, anddrawconclusions.Performeffectivelyduringprolongedperiodsofstress.Physicalabilityandstrengthand endurance to run after/apprehend/gain/sustain/ control over or move unruly suspects.Physical ability to climb, jump, crawl, or otherwise surmount physical obstacles, as well as run for various distances.Ability to lift and carrymoderatelyheavy(25-50lb.)toheavy(50-100lb.)materials,suppliesandequipment.Abilitytomaintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.


WorkingConditions:

Exposedtounknownanddangerousconditions.Requiredtoadheretoahighstandardof personal appearance, morals, ethics, and conduct.Drives vehicles under dangerous and hazardous conditions.


Exposedtoinclementweatherconditions.Exposedtopotentiallyhazardousdiseasesandmaterials.Maybe required to work variations in hours of assignment, duration, and scheduling.
