Responsibilities

  • Protect lives and secure buildings and property: patrols grounds on foot and/or in car to ensure safety of residents, staff, buildings and property; perform security checks within buildings; assist with locating/searching AWOL residents; respond to incidents; conduct background checks on new hires and existing staff as directed.
  • Perform safety checks on campus: check extinguishers, elevators, water temperature, power strips; transport residents for security reasons when determined necessary; track and maintain required documentation and logs.
  • Answers phone inquiries; assist local law enforcement in emergencies; assist with evacuations; record information in emergencies; track calls/requests; type reports; perform other duties within range/scope.

Job Duties:

Protect lives and secure buildings and property: At the Southwest Ohio Developmental Center enforces rules and laws, patrols grounds on foot and/or in car to ensure safety of residents, staff, buildings and property. Performs security checks within buildings (e.g., checks doors, rooms, parking issues, visitors, unusual activity, etc.); assist with locating and searching for AWOL residents as requested; respond to and assist with incidents with and between staff (e.g., break ins, campus crime, workplace violence). Process employee workplace injury incidents (e.g., ensures accident analysis form is completed, take pictures, interview employee’s). As assigned, conducts emergency drills (e.g., fire, tornado, etc.) with staff and provides input into training and disaster planning. Assist with training (e.g., CPR, first aide, etc.). Respond to and assist other law enforcement as needed with issues on campus; makes emergency calls to emergency personnel as requested/needed. As directed by supervisor, may conduct background checks on new hires and existing staff (e.g., secure BMV check, registry checks, badge, etc.).

Perform safety checks on campus: Check extinguishers, elevators, water temperature, refrigerator / freezer temperature, power strips and ensure routine service / maintenance completed. Assist grounds office in locating staff. Complete environmental checklists as outlined in Quality Assurance process. Transport residents for security reasons on/off grounds, when determined necessary . Track and maintain required documentation and logs as assigned. May assist with employee termination/exit process (e.g., obtain keys, equipment, etc.). Escort staff off grounds for security reasons (e.g., if placing an employee on administrative leave, if workplace injury, etc.).

Answers phone inquiries (e.g., security calls, etc.); assists local law enforcement departments in the event of an emergency; assists with emergency evacuations; records information in emergency situations as directed by supervisor/management. Tracks calls / requests; types reports. Performs other duties within range / scope of position.
