Job summary

The University of Louisiana Monroe is seeking a Police Officer to patrol and protect University property, enforce laws, investigate incidents, and respond to emergencies. You will work to strengthen public safety within the campus community.

Minimum requirements include one year of law enforcement experience, 18+ years old, and a Louisiana driver’s license; POST certification may be required. Appointment is probationary, with duties including multi-agency task force participation and court

Qualifications

• Experience substitution: every 30 semester hours earned substitutes for one year of experience.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
• Louisiana driver’s license required.
• Possession of POST certification may be required.

Responsibilities

• Criminal patrol, enforce laws and regulations of the State, City, and University and make arrests as necessary.
• Traffic enforcement that may include the use of radar/LIDAR.
• Enforce DWI, narcotic, criminal, and University laws and regulations.
• Investigate incidents within University jurisdiction (assaults, thefts, sex crimes, computer crimes, traffic accidents, etc.).
• Respond to emergency calls for service within University jurisdiction.
• Serve on multi-agency task force for DWI and crime prevention.
• Gather and submit evidence for investigations into violations of laws and University regulations.
• Generate reports regarding calls for service.
• Appear in court when subpoenaed.
• Provide protection for dignitaries and VIPs within University jurisdiction.
• Recertify annually to maintain Louisiana POST certifications.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
