  • Understanding of applicable laws, regulations, and law enforcement standards relevant to campus policing and public safety.
  • Completion of an accredited law enforcement academy and eligibility to be certified as a peace officer in Arizona (or ability to obtain certification per state requirements).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, de-escalate conflicts, and interact respectfully with diverse populations in an educational setting.
  • Physical fitness and ability to meet job-related physical demands, including responding to emergencies, conducting foot patrols, and operating police vehicles and equipment.
  • Strong ethical standards, sound judgment, and commitment to community-oriented policing and student-centered service.

Role Description

The Police Officer role at Maricopa Community Colleges is a full-time, on-site position based across campuses in the Greater Phoenix Area. Police Officers provide safety and security services, including patrolling campus grounds, responding to calls for service, and engaging in community-oriented policing to support a safe learning environment. Daily responsibilities include enforcing local, state, and federal laws; applying college policies; performing preliminary criminal investigations; securing and processing evidence; and preparing clear, accurate incident reports. The role involves collaborating with students, employees, and visitors, as well as coordinating with local law enforcement and emergency responders when necessary. Police Officers also participate in safety education, emergency preparedness activities, and crime prevention initiatives that promote trust and positive engagement with the campus community.


Qualifications
