Job summary

Ball State University is seeking a Police Officer to protect campus and university property, enforce laws and university policies, and respond to emergencies. The role offers a starting hourly rate of $29.44 to $30.61 with a $7,500 sign-on bonus for Tier 1 Certified applicants with qualifying experience.

This position is open to both Tier 1 Certified applicants and Non-Certified applicants. The starting rate range is $29.44 to $30.61 per hour. Additionally, there is a $7,500 sign-on bonus for Tier 1 Certified applicants with a minimum of two years qualifying experience.

Position Function: Perform functions related to the preservation of public peace and order, the prevention and detection of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the protection of persons and property, the enforcement of laws of the State of Indiana and the ordinances of the City of Muncie, the enforcement of rules and regulations of Ball State University, and the safeguarding of individual and collective rights of the citizenry.

1. 10. Prepare and write detailed reports; investigate all accidents, criminal cases, and incidents to provide complete documentation for Ball State; provide necessary information to assist the prosecutor’s office in preparing criminal cases.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
• Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty and be able to meet physical fitness standards as defined by the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
• Must pass a written examination and polygraph test pre-offer.
• Must pass a post offer/pre-employment psychological evaluation, medical, drug and alcohol test.
• Must pass skills test.
• Must be at least age 21 at time of hire.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen in accordance with Indiana code 250IAC 2-3-1.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree or two years of college or equivalent experience in law enforcement or two years of active military service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Successful completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy basic training course, or completion of an equivalent training program approved by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board.
• Law enforcement experience related to a campus/university environment.
