Essential Job Functions
- Affect arrests using physical techniques, handcuffs, and restraints as necessary.
- Perform physical tasks such as climbing, jumping, crawling, and navigating obstacles to conduct searches, investigations, or rescues.
- Communicate effectively over law enforcement radio channels, often under adverse conditions.
- Conduct searches of buildings and outdoor areas, requiring long periods of standing and visual perception skills.
- Maintain visual and audio surveillance for extended durations.
- Enter and exit vehicles swiftly during emergency responses or pursuits.
- Exercise independent judgment within legal guidelines regarding detention, searches, arrests, and use of force.
- Gather information through interviews with victims, witnesses, suspects, and informants.
- Handle firearms safely and effectively under stressful conditions.
- Manage interpersonal conflicts to maintain order.
- Operate emergency vehicles during various conditions, including high-speed pursuits and adverse weather.
- Perform patrol duties, including shift work and overtime.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting and dragging during arrests or rescues.
- Conduct searches of persons for weapons and contraband.
- Prepare reports and sketches accurately using proper grammar and mathematical symbols.
- Chase fleeing suspects on foot in various terrains.
- Comprehend and adhere to rules, regulations, and laws relevant to law enforcement.
- Subdue resisting subjects using hands, feet, or approved non-lethal methods.
- Use bodily force to gain entry for investigations or rescues.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the department or training council.
Qualifications
- Valid operator's license.
- At least two years of college credits, military service, or law enforcement experience as specified.
- Excellent health, with corrected vision to 20/20.
- Clean criminal background.
- Passed required MCOLES tests.
- Knowledge of laws, geography, police practices, traffic regulations.
- Ability to handle firearms, react calmly in emergencies, and produce accurate reports.
- Good physical condition, strength, agility, and interpersonal skills.
