Job description

Position Information

The primary mission of the University of California Police is the protection of life and property on and adjacent to the University campus. Officers serve in various roles to support this mission. The full salary range for the Police Officer is $100,766.88–$126,699.84 annually. Applicants must have current U.S. work authorization; the University does not sponsor or take over employment visas. Current staff must comply with all applicable University policies and collective bargaining agreements. Candidates may be required to take a skills assessment as part of the interview process. Multiple openings are available.

Educational Requirements
  • U.S. high school diploma; GED certificate; high school equivalency certificate; or a two‑, four‑, or advanced‑degree from an accredited or approved college/university.
  • Completion of the POST Regular Basic Course in either the intensive or extended format within one year of appointment.
Minimum Requirements
  • Ability and willingness to work in an environment demanding police officer integrity, excellence, accountability, and respect; personal involvement in the community as a problem‑solving resource; demonstrate behaviors consistent with the University’s Principles of Community; friendly, caring, and approachable.
  • Work rotation shifts with changing days off in a 24/7 operation; meet rigorous mental and physical requirements of police work; work effectively under pressure in potentially hazardous or ambiguous situations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current or recent University of California affiliation as a student or staff member.
  • Knowledge of current police practices, protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the California criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws applicable to the police function, generally and specifically for University of California police.
