In anticipation of future openings, the Bangor Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer. The Bangor Police Department is the only agency in the area that offers a 3 days on, 3 days off patrol work schedule. No flipping from days to nights or vice versa, your assigned shift is set. Bangor Police also invest in their officers with 78 hours of high-quality annual training, to include multiple firearms trainings as well as active threat training throughout the year.
The City of Bangor offers the MPERS retirement system for Police Officers. Officers are eligible to retire at 66.67% (two-thirds) pay of their top highest three years. Overtime opportunities will allow for significantly increased earning potential. There is no age limit to withdraw and for every year you remain vested after 25, you add 2%. Applicants can also choose an ICMA 401(A) retirement plan as well.
Our officers are assigned to the Bangor International Airport and worked extra duty assignments at the Cross Insurance Center, Maine Savings Amphitheater concert venue, local sporting events, waterfront events, and multiple city functions. Overtime opportunities are often available!

Qualifications
Applicants are not required to have a degree but must be 21 years old to apply. If you are 20 years of age, you must have a minimum of 60 credit hours. Please visit the Maine Criminal Justice Academy website for the upcoming Alert and Physical Fitness Testing dates, times, and locations. Applicants are also required to have already taken and passed the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Alert and Physical Fitness Test. You must submit these results with your application. Salary and Benefits
The City of Bangor offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package to include vacation, holidays, sick leave, health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Aflac supplemental insurance, employee assistance, uniforms, and equipment. Pay ranges from $30.75 to $41.31 per hour with agreed upon pay increases in 2025 and 2026 and longevity steps at 15 and 20 years coming to $41.31 per hour. Lateral transfer available. Percentage stipends offered for post-secondary education, military service, and certain Department specialties and assignments. We also offer bonuses for passing bi-annual physical fitness tests.
