Summary

Discover a challenging and rewarding career with the Pentagon Force Protection Agency. Protecting Those Who Protect Our Nation, PFPA police officers are responsible for force protection, security, and law enforcement for the people, facilities, infrastructure, and other resources at the Pentagon Reservation and DoD occupied facilities in the National Capital Region.

The incumbent must be able to carry and possibly use a firearm, qualify with PPPA designated firearms, and take decisive action in emergencies such as riots, terrorist attacks, and hostage situations, including the use of appropriate force up to deadly force when necessary.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Making arrests, sometimes alone and far from assistance.
  2. Enforcing federal and state laws.
  3. Conducting investigations: interviewing subjects, securing areas, controlling subjects, inspecting damage, developing cases, managing evidence, and operating independently or as part of a team at crime scenes.
  4. Carrying out surveillance: patrolling the Pentagon Reservation and other DoD sites, including night patrols, vehicle patrols, and electronic surveillance.
  5. Performing inspections: operating traffic checkpoints and conducting compliance checks on persons and vehicles.
  6. Analyzing data to make quick, well-reasoned decisions in time-critical situations.

Medical and physical requirements: Good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, emotional and mental stability, hearing ability, and physical agility, strength, and endurance to handle demanding tasks and environments, including exposure to hazardous materials or situations.

This position requires passing annual medical and physical fitness exams, qualifying with designated weapons twice a year, wearing PPE, and completing certification programs, including active shooter response training. A valid state driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance are required.

Appearance and professionalism are essential. The role is mission essential and designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP), requiring abstinence from illegal drugs and compliance with drug testing protocols.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • At least one year of police experience or a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
  • Successful background check, medical, and physical assessments.
  • Passing the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST) and drug screening.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

Additional locations may include Arlington, VA (Pentagon), Alexandria, VA (Mark Center), and Adams County, PA.
