Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids is seeking Police Cadets to support the Grand Rapids Police Department and the community. Cadets perform customer service, report writing, and clerical tasks, and may drive city vehicles for supply and equipment support. Ride-alongs with sworn officers are available for hands-on experience.

Must be enrolled in a college or university, at least 18, and maintain 9 credit hours with a 2.0 GPA. Valid Michigan license and clean background required.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a college or university in good standing and be at least 18 years of age.
• Maintain a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester (excluding summers).
• Maintain a GPA of 2.0.
• Possess a valid Michigan driver's license and no felony convictions.

Responsibilities

• Assist sworn and civilian staff with law enforcement-related duties.
• Prepare reports for minor criminal incidents and minor accidents.
• Perform clerical tasks (mail distribution) and assist with department tours.
• Drive city-owned vehicles for supply and equipment support as directed.
• Participate in patrol ride-alongs with sworn officers.
