The Police Cadet position is a non-sworn, developmental role within the University Medical Center Police Department. It is designed to introduce students and aspiring law enforcement professionals to public safety operations in a healthcare academic environment. Under close supervision, cadets perform a variety of support duties and receive exposure to the complexities of law enforcement in a high-acuity, multidisciplinary medical campus.
Education and Experience Required:
High school diploma/GED. Must be 18 years of age.
Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations Required:
Valid US Driver’s License
Completion of a pre-employment drug screen required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong interest in healthcare security, law enforcement, or public service careers. Basic understanding of medical center operations and visitor management principles. Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingual ability is a plus. Capacity to maintain composure in fast-paced, high-stress environments. Familiarity with confidentiality requirements (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA) is strongly preferred, and Proficient in basic computer use and mobile communication devices.
Responsibilities:
Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, occasional sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
