Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age by graduation from the academy.
• Must have a valid driver's license and obtain a New Mexico (Class D) driver's license within 30 days of hire.
• Must be a United States citizen or authorized to work in the United States.
• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• No felony convictions. Felony arrests will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
• No misdemeanor convictions within the last three years from initial testing.
• No DWI convictions within the last five years from initial testing.
• Any financial accounts referred to collections must have documentation showing active resolution.
• Any history of discipline, termination or resignation in lieu of termination is disqualifying.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned area for suspicious persons and vehicles.
• Responds to calls for service.
• Back-up unit to other units.
• Investigates traffic crashes.
• Enforces traffic code.
• Makes felony and misdemeanor arrests.
• Completes preliminary investigations.
• Conducts complete investigations of crimes.
• Interviews victims, witnesses and suspects.
• Controls or directs traffic.
• Provides routine assistance to the public.
• Familiarizes self with area of assignment.
• Performs vehicle inspections and maintenance, transports prisoners.
• Refer the public to appropriate agencies in civil matters.
• Presents testimony in court.
• Performs field community policing/engagement activities.
• Obtains and executes arrests and search warrants.
