Job summary

Rockymountnc in North Carolina offers a Police Apprentice position focused on completing training in enforcing state and local laws, including Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and obtaining a probationary NC LE Certificate. The program supports a VA approved Apprenticeship and helps eligible veterans access Post 9/11 GI Bill funding.

No prior law enforcement experience is required. Applicants must be at least 20 years old, read at a tenth-grade level, and have a valid NC driver’s license;

Responsibilities

• Attends and completes Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and obtains a probationary NC LE Certificate.
• Participates in educational training and passes weekly tests; no deficiencies.
• Engages in physical training and passes the Police Officers Physical Ability Test (POPAT).
• Gains knowledge in investigation of crimes and accidents.
• Gains knowledge in preparing incident, accident, and arrest reports.
• Gains knowledge in processing crime scenes and developing skills for court testimony.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job description

DEFINITION: This position is responsible for completing training in the enforcement of state and local laws.

REPORTS TO: The Police Sergeant assigns work in terms of general instructions.

We offer a VA approved Apprenticeship Program for military veterans who are eligible to receive funding from their Post 9/11 GI Bill, and facilitate the training and education to receive those benefits from the VA.

After successfully completing the BLET course and being awarded your probationary NC LE Certificate, your pay will be adjusted to $60,000 per year.

• Attends and successfully completes Basic Law Enforcement Training (B.L.E.T.); obtains a probationary law enforcement certificate.
• Participate in educational training and successfully pass weekly test; No deficiencies.
• Participates in physical training and show a steady physical improvement. Successfully pass the Police Officers Physical Ability Test (POPAT).
• Gains knowledge in the investigation of crimes and accidents.
• Gains knowledge in preparing incident, accident, and arrest reports.
• Gains knowledge in processing crime scenes.
• Gains knowledge on preparation of accurate incident, accident and arrest reports.
• Gains knowledge in developing skills needed to prepare cases and testify in District and Superior Courts.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Be a high school graduate or have passed the General Educational Development test indicating high school equivalency. Diplomas earned through correspondence enrollment are not recognized.
• Applicants must be able to read on a Tenth-grade reading level.
• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• No experience requirements.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission.
• Must be at least Twenty years old by the time of taking the state exam.
• No felony convictions. No serious misdemeanor convictions in the last 5 years.
• No Domestic Violence convictions.
• No DUI, DWI convictions in the last 5 years.
