Details

  • Part-time (PTS), Non-Exempt
  • $25.00 per hour
  • Reports to a Police Support Sergeant assigned to Support Division
  • The City offers benefits such as tuition reimbursement for a two-year degree (up to $12,000/year), last two years of a four-year degree (up to $12,000/year), EMT Training and Certification (if available), and Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) to support promotion eligibility to Police Officer.
  • Located at Eden Prairie Police Department (8080 Mitchell Road Eden Prairie, MN 55344).
  • The Police Cadet will work a flexible schedule (15-20 hours/week) including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with hours varying based on needs. The position lasts 2-4 years, depending on educational goals.

Responsibilities

The Police Cadet is a uniformed apprentice supporting community service activities and police support services, with opportunities for mentorship and education towards becoming a Police Officer. The Cadet will attend an approved PPOE program, working towards an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, and assist licensed officers in various duties, including:

  • Enforcing ordinances and statutes related to animals, parking, health, and nuisances; providing traffic control and security.
  • Performing detention duties, fingerprinting, reporting, and property management.
  • Participating in trainings, ride-alongs, and departmental initiatives to foster positive community interactions.
  • Covering the front desk as needed.

Teamwork is emphasized, and duties may vary based on departmental needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. upon hire.
  • Proficiency with computers, MS Office preferred.
  • Fluency in a second language preferred; ability to work effectively with diverse groups required.
  • At least 18 years old, with a valid MN Driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
  • Available to start college immediately, maintaining a 2.00 GPA or higher.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including vehicle operation, lifting, climbing, and exposure to hazardous conditions.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background checks, references, and psychological evaluation.
