Hickory, North Carolina, is a three-time All-America City on the Catawba River approximately one hour east of Asheville and one hour north of Charlotte. Must have a valid Class "C" driver's license.
Must not have been convicted of a felony and must undergo a thorough background investigation.
Must be able to work part-time duty hours that may vary as scheduled. A person in this position will work directly for the Hickory Police Department, assigned to the Support Services Division as an unarmed uniformed security aide to assist in securing assigned areas throughout the City of Hickory. These assigned areas could vary in physical terrain and locations to include the City of Hickory parks and trail systems, the Downtown Social District, Hickory City Walk and Book Walk, Hickory River Walk, and assist staff at the Arts and Science Center.
A person in this position would be conducting security checks of these locations on foot, on a bicycle, or in a motor vehicle, to ensure the safety and security of citizens, personnel, and property. This person will make reports to the proper authority if a situation arises. They will maintain radio communications with the Hickory Police Department Communications Center and will file all necessary reports when required by the Hickory Police Department. This position would make some electronic reports via computer and would require basic computer skills.
This person must communicate with the general public in a face-to-face setting in order to give directions and answer inquiries. They will communicate internally with other employees face-to-face, by telephone, or by portable radio in order to receive instructions and information regarding daily duties.
PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is primarily performed while standing and walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
SAFETY SENSITIVE: This position has been identified as safety-sensitive. The employee in this position will be part of a random drug testing pool. The methodology for choosing the random test subjects is handled by an outside, impartial, third party vendor.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside and outside where the employee may be exposed to cold or inclement weather.
