An established industry player is seeking a skilled aircraft mechanic to ensure the safety and functionality of MD500 helicopters. An employee in this job class is responsible for performing work of marked difficulty inspecting, maintaining, overhauling and repairing MD500 helicopters, accessories and equipment in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and manufacture specifications. Work is performed under the direction of the unit’s chief mechanic and an administrative supervisor. Work involves moderate physical exertion, lifting and moving heavy objects and operating power and hand tools. Work requires considerable independent judgment in the performance of duties and is reviewed for adherence to specifications of manufacturers and government agencies, rate of performance and through results obtained.
Duty Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with flexibility to meet Department needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Training and Experience:
Associate degree in aviation maintenance or related field, three years minimum, (five years preferred) of experience inspecting, overhauling, maintaining and certifying turbine helicopters, a valid state driver’s license; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
Previous relevant field experience with MD500 helicopters and completion of McDonnell Douglas Maintenance Course, previous relevant experience with the Rolls Royce turbine engine, obtained a Certificate of Achievement from the McDonnell Douglas Overhaul Course, obtained a Certification of Achievement from the rolls Royce/Allison Engine School and obtained an Inspection Authorization license.
Special Requirements:
FAA Certified Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certification in good standing. Must obtain a Certificate of Achievement from the McDonnell Douglas Factory Maintenance School within 18 months of hire date (paid for by St. Louis County). Must possess all required tools for normal A&P maintenance on the specified aircraft.
