Job summary

Bear River Health Department offers an internship to support community health projects in the Bear River Health District. The role is 15–20 hours/week for about 3 months starting in September, with hands-on duties at health fairs, school/daycare events and community presentations.

You will coordinate with staff and community partners, gain experience in health education, and contribute to campaigns such as seatbelt safety, while building skills in program planning and data entry.

Qualifications

  • Must be a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate or graduate student in public health, community health, health education, social work, family life, or closely related program.
  • Must have knowledge of public health education models, behavior change theories, and primary prevention techniques.
  • Must be skilled in computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, internet and email use.
  • Must have good written, verbal, and public communication skills. Spanish speaking skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate efforts with Bear River Health Department staff, community members and the Utah Poison Control Center to provide poison prevention education to community members in order to decrease poisonings within the health district.
  • Attend 5 health fairs, 3 senior presentations, and 3 school/daycare presentations; gather resources and materials for each event.
  • Reach out and schedule health fairs and presentations; enter documents in a state database.
  • Assist with the Together For Life seatbelt campaign; help with ideas, design and implementation of media campaigns.
  • Opportunities to learn and assist with other community health programs as needed.
