Job summary
UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Poison Information Specialist to provide professional poison control information to the public and healthcare professionals. You will analyze toxins, determine exposure severity, and craft a management plan, while guiding clinicians on patient care and laboratory interpretation.
The role includes emergency medical assistance, case evaluation, and triage for regional poisoning issues, with opportunities to participate in prevention education and research
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Pharmacy, or related field is required.
- PhD in Pharmacy is preferred.
- One year of directly related experience is required; graduates of an accredited school may require no prior experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide professional poison control information by analyzing potential toxicity, exposure type/severity, and recommending a treatment plan.
- Inform healthcare professionals on clinical course, diagnostics, interpretation of labs, and appropriate treatments.
- Offer emergency medical assistance and triage recommendations for regional poisoning issues.
- Participate in poison prevention education for communities and professionals.
- Contribute to research through publications of abstracts and journal articles.
- Serve on subcommittees to improve poison control efficiency and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
