This includes waived, moderate complexity, high complexity, and provider performed microscopy testing. Regulatory requirements will be monitored for compliance to ensure that quality results are obtained. Leads the technical functions and assists with the administrative activities in the clinical laboratory.

Responsibilities
How You Will Fulfill Your Potential
  • Establishes and monitors a dynamic quality control, quality assurance and proficiency program for each test method /instrument used in Point of Care Testing
  • Performs regular audits such as specimen review, critical value review, as well as temperature and humidity review for sites where POC services are provided
  • Creates, implements, maintains, and effectively distributes all Point of Care (POC) testing documentation including policies, procedures, and related documents.
Education/Accredited Programs
  • Qualify as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist as defined in that Job Description.
  • Minimum of 4 years clinical laboratory experience, preferably in an acute care hospital setting with significant outreach volumes
  • Prefer 1-year supervisory experience related to POCT.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations
  • Licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist by the New York State Education Department is required
  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) registration preferred
  • Specialist Certification in area of technical lead duties is required within 1 year of employment.
Skills/Abilities
  • Proficiency working with departmental computer/PC applications and ability to operate various technical instrumentation.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, policies, procedures, and instrument printouts. Demonstrated strength in presenting information and responding to questions from coworkers, patients, physicians, and vendors in both written and verbal forms. Ability to effectively communicate sensitive information.
  • Proficient in evaluating testing procedures for precision, accuracy, linearity, parallel testing, and reference range determination. Possesses working knowledge of statistics for method evaluation which include correlation coefficient, slope, intercept, SD, and CV. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios, as applied to technical procedures to evaluate concepts of normal range and standard deviations and such measures as Levy-Jennings charts for QC for shifts and trends.
  • Ability to solve problems regarding instrumentation, technical procedures, or testing results. Ability to interpret instructions from SOP, vendor manuals that are in written and/or diagram form. Communicates and documents corrective actions that need to be implemented. Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions, and deal with problems effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Must be able to effectively communicate appropriately in both written and verbal forms with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel. Including conducting meetings with small and large groups.
  • Ability to be self-directed and motivated with day-to-day responsibilities and exhibit exceptional time management and organizational skills.
  • Exhibits initiative. Seeks out educational opportunities via seminars, trade journals, internet applications to remain current on anticipated changes.
  • Ability to drive a personal vehicle to visit off site locations which perform POCT as needed and applicable.

Salary Range

The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $28.19 to $42.28 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
