Qualifications

• Degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) obtained from an accredited college of podiatry and licensed in the state of practice.
• Completion of a three-year podiatric residency program.
• Knowledge of information and techniques to diagnose and treat injuries, diseases, deformities of the foot and related systems.
• Familiarity with diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation principles and patient counseling.

Responsibilities

• Treat bone, muscle, and joint disorders affecting the feet.
• Perform minor office surgery including nail avulsions and abscess drainage.
• Educate the public on foot care benefits via talks and outreach.
• Handle administrative duties such as hiring, ordering supplies, and record keeping.
• Advise patients on treatments and preventive foot care for future problems.
• Correct deformities using casts and strapping.
• Diagnose foot diseases using histories, exams, X-rays and labs.
• Makes and fits prosthetic appliances.
• Prescribe medications, devices, PT, or surgery.
• Refer patients to physicians for systemic disorders when detected.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.
