Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited college of Podiatric Medicine.
  • Current, valid Podiatrist License in the State of California’s Board of Podiatric Medicine.
  • Current DEA license and CPR required.
  • Valid California Driver’s License, insurance and ability to travel as required to perform duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the condition of a patient’s feet, ankles or lower legs by reviewing medical history and performing exams.
  • Diagnose foot, ankle and lower-leg problems via local examination, imaging, and tests.
  • Provide treatment such as orthotics to improve mobility and prescribe medications as needed.
  • Refer patients to other physicians or specialists when larger health problems are detected.
  • Stays abreast of advances in podiatric medicine through trainings and conferences.

Overall Summary

The Podiatrist treats a variety of foot and ankle ailments including calluses, ingrown toenails, heel spurs, and arch problems as well as foot and leg problems associated with diabetes and other diseases. The Position also serves as coach/mentor/trainer to other clinicians and clinical support staff, giving guidance in best practices, troubleshooting of medical services and operations related to Podiatry.

Essential Responsibilities

Under the general direction of Clinical Director, the Podiatrist performs a variety of complex, professional, analytical, and confidential Podiatry services.

  • Assess the condition of a patient’s feet, ankles or lower legs by reviewing his or her medical history, listening to the patient’s concerns and performing a physical examination as needed.
  • Diagnose foot, ankle and lower-leg problems through local examination, x-rays, medical laboratory tests, and other methods.
  • Provide treatment for foot and ankle ailments, such as prescribing special shoe inserts (orthotics) to improve a patient’s mobility.
  • Give advice and instruction on foot and ankle care and on general wellness techniques and prescribe medications as needed.
  • Refer patients to other physicians or specialists if larger health problems, such as diabetes, are detected.
  • Stays abreast of advances in podiatric medicine by attending trainings and conferences and reading related material.
  • Provide podiatric support, counseling and education in the management of common acute and chronic podiatric illnesses.
  • Consult complex and high-priority cases with the director, assistant director or physician on duty or with a specialist as needed.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Works as a member of the health care team and assists in education of patients and the target community in preventive health care and health maintenance.
  • Attend webinars, workshops, training and/or meetings as requested by CMO.
  • Demonstrates pattern of continued learning to ensure growth as a practitioner.
  • Attends internal and external meetings, workshops and conferences and participates on task forces or committees, as necessary and/or required.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by Chief Medical Officer.
Qualifications
  • Must have a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited college of Podiatric Medicine.
  • Current, valid Podiatrist License in the State of California’s Board of Podiatric Medicine.
  • Current DEA license and CPR required.
  • Valid California Driver’s License, insurance and ability to travel as required to perform duties.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Training

Previous experience providing Podiatry care within a community health center environment preferred.

Work Conditions
  • Travel locally to visit other sites; may require a day or overnight trip to attend events; workload may be demanding at times; require professionalism and confidentiality.
Physical Demands
  • Sitting, walking, and standing associated with a normal medical, clinical and administrative office environment, with some bending, reaching, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for tasks involving standard office equipment and computer keyboard, including repetitive movements, such as typing.
  • Travelling to work sites, including some exposure to outside elements.
  • Exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations, requiring adherence to extensive safety precautions and possibly the use of protective equipment.
