Job summary

South Village PMIC in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a Youth Counselor to work directly with male and female youth ages 12–17, providing support, supervision, and guidance within a 24-hour residential program.

You will help youths develop skills, healthy relationships, and coping strategies while maintaining consistency, compassion, and trust. This position offers varied shifts and a chance to make a meaningful impact on young people’s lives.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's in a Human Services field preferred.
• Desire to help kids succeed and work well in a team.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities; basic MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide supportive, consistent supervision to youth ages 12–17 within PMIC.
• Build healthy relationships, set boundaries, and help youths progress toward goals.

PMIC stands for Psychiatric Medical Institution for Children.

South Village PMIC provides 24-hour residential treatment and support for youth who need a higher level of care for behavioral and emotional needs.

What you need:

• You will need to be at least 21 years of age and possess a High School Diploma or GED to qualify. A Bachelor\'s Degree in a Human Services related field of study is preferred. Additional requirements include:
• Desire to help kids succeed
• Prior experience working with children in a school or mental health setting preferred
• Strong communication and problem solving abilities
• Basic computer skills in a MS Office environment
