Job summary

DHL Express in Erlanger, KY is seeking a qualified Clearance Manager to lead customs clearance operations, ensure compliance with U.S. Customs and participating agencies, and drive efficient day-to-day performance across the team.

Reporting to the Senior Clearance Manager, you will coach staff, manage priorities, and develop process improvements while maintaining strong customer relationships and internal governance.

Qualifications

• BS/BA and 3–5 years of Customs Clearance/International Trade experience in a supervisory/managerial role.
• Proven capability to lead, supervise, motivate and develop staff.
• Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple tasks and set priorities.
• Customer-focused mindset with ability to build productive relationships.
• Effective communication with multi-functional and diverse teams.
• General knowledge of U.S. Customs and international trade; understanding of valuation, classification, compliance/audit and trade programs.
• Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
• Strong presentation skills and ability to answer management and customer questions.
• Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Must be eligible for SIDA badge and pass security checks.

The Clearance Manager ensures compliance with Customs and Participating Government Agencies while ensuring there is efficiency in the day-to-day roles of our Clearance Agents. Reporting to the Senior Clearance Manager, this position is responsible for providing leadership while ensuring efficient production and stability in ever-changing environments. The Clearance Manager is able to excel in day-to-day coaching, motivation and direction to our teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide expert advice to both internal and external customers
• Ensure that staff operations are being performed within established timeframes and corporate governance standards and adheres to Customs and OGA rules & regulations
• Actively seek out, develop and implement process improvement opportunities for the business
• Ensures all policies and procedures are consistently administered
• Assigns work, sets completion dates, reviews work, and manages performance in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and performance management processes
• Responsible for meeting key performance indicators and targets
• Manages a large number of service, production, or support employees via subordinate supervisors or a team of exempt professional individual contributors and applicable staff in Associate roles
• Ensures performance planning, coaching, and evaluation occurs per policy

Skills & Qualifications:

• Typically requires BS/BA and 3-5 years of experience in Customs Clearance/International Trade in a supervisory or management role
• Demonstrated success in leading, supervising, managing, motivating and developing staff
• Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple tasks and set priorities
• Ability to make customers and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; developing and sustaining productive relationships
• Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds
• General Knowledge in U.S. Customs and International trade with a basic understanding of Customs valuation, classification, compliance/audit and trade programs
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, employees and customers
• Proficiency in Excel, Word and Power Point
• This position requires access to secured airport areas. Selected candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge, which includes passing a criminal history records check, fingerprinting, and meeting all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Candidates must be able to provide all documentation necessary to support the badging process.
