Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking an experienced Plumbing Superintendent to lead plumbing operations on commercial construction projects in Manassas, VA. You will supervise crews, coordinate with project teams, and ensure work meets plans, specs, and codes while maintaining safety.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of supervision, strong knowledge of plumbing systems, and the ability to read drawings and manage field execution.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of plumbing supervision or management experience on commercial projects.
• Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, installation methods, and codes.
• Proven ability to lead crews and coordinate work across trades.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Experience planning manpower, materials, and activities to meet deadlines.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.

The Opportunity

To support our continued growth, VMG is seeking an experienced Plumbing Superintendent to lead plumbing operations on commercial construction projects.

In this field leadership role, you will direct crews, coordinate with project teams and other trades, and keep plumbing work moving safely and on schedule. You will oversee installation quality, resolve field issues, and ensure work meets project plans, specifications, and applicable codes.

The ideal candidate brings strong commercial plumbing experience, sound judgment in the field, and the ability to lead and develop a team.

What You'll Do

Field Leadership & Project Execution

• Lead and supervise plumbing crews, including mechanics, helpers, and apprentices
• Plan daily and upcoming work to meet project schedules and milestones
• Oversee commercial plumbing installations from rough-in through testing and completion
• Review plans, specifications, and field conditions to guide installation
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, and materials to keep work progressing
• Identify field issues early and work with the project team to resolve them

Coordination & Quality

• Coordinate plumbing activities with project managers, general contractors, subcontractors, and other trades
• Verify that installations meet approved plans, specifications, applicable codes, and VMG quality standards
• Monitor progress and communicate schedule, staffing, and material needs
• Support inspections, testing, punch list completion, and project closeout
• Document field changes and provide information needed to review and track change orders
• Maintain clear communication with project stakeholders on progress and priorities

Safety & Team Development

• Promote safe work practices and enforce company and jobsite safety requirements
• Identify and address hazards before they affect the crew or project
• Set clear expectations for workmanship, productivity, and jobsite conduct
• Train and mentor crew members and apprentices

What We're Looking For

• At least 5 years of plumbing supervision or management experience on commercial construction projects
• Strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, installation methods, and applicable codes
• Proven ability to lead crews and coordinate work across multiple trades
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Experience planning manpower, materials, and work activities to meet deadlines
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to maintain quality and safety standards in a fast-paced construction environment
• Familiarity with construction management software and field reporting tools
• A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but not required
