Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Superintendent to lead field operations on complex commercial projects. You will coordinate mechanical crews, manage schedules, and ensure safe, high-quality installations in line with VMG standards.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Superintendent to lead field operations on complex commercial construction projects. This role is responsible for coordinating mechanical work in the field, leading crews and trade partners, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to VMG's quality standards.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on field leader with a strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and MEP coordination who can successfully manage large‑scale projects involving multiple trades from startup through closeout.
Oversee day‑to‑day mechanical construction activities from project startup through completion
Lead and coordinate Foremen, field crews, subcontractors, and trade partners
Plan manpower, equipment, materials, and resources to meet project schedules and production goals
Coordinate HVAC, plumbing, piping, and other mechanical scopes with surrounding trades
Monitor field productivity and ensure project milestones are achieved
Identify field challenges early and work with project teams to develop effective solutions
Maintain a strong field presence and provide clear direction to project teams
Lead field coordination of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems
Review drawings, specifications, submittals, coordination drawings, and other project documentation
Participate in constructability reviews and identify potential installation conflicts before they impact the field
Coordinate sequencing with general contractors, subcontractors, and other trades
Work closely with BIM/VDC teams to resolve coordination and constructability issues
Ensure mechanical installations align with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements
Promote and enforce VMG, OSHA, and project‑specific safety requirements
Conduct routine jobsite inspections and proactively address unsafe conditions
Ensure field teams follow established safety procedures and properly utilize PPE
Monitor installation quality and ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, codes, and VMG standards
Coordinate inspections, testing, startup, and commissioning activities
Maintain accountability for workmanship, quality, and jobsite organization
Develop and maintain short‑term field schedules, look‑ahead schedules, and installation sequencing
Monitor manpower, labor productivity, materials, equipment, and field progress
Coordinate material and equipment deliveries to support project schedules
Track project milestones and communicate potential delays or challenges to Project Management
Assist with identifying scope changes, field conditions, and potential cost impacts
Participate in project meetings and provide accurate updates regarding field progress and upcoming activities
Support overall project performance by maintaining productivity, quality, and schedule expectations
Provide leadership and direction to Foremen, Mechanics, Helpers, and other field personnel
Establish clear expectations for safety, productivity, quality, and accountability
Mentor and develop field employees while identifying opportunities for continued growth
Promote communication and teamwork between field personnel, Project Management, VDC, and other departments
Build productive relationships with general contractors, owners, subcontractors, and project partners
Lead by example and reinforce VMG's standards for professionalism and performance
Coordinate mechanical system startup, testing, and commissioning activities
Manage punch‑list completion and outstanding field items
Support inspections and final system acceptance
Coordinate turnover requirements with Project Management and Commissioning teams
Ensure field documentation and closeout requirements are completed
Support a successful transition from construction through final project turnover
5+ years of commercial mechanical construction experience with field leadership or supervisory responsibility
Strong experience with commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and MEP systems
Previous experience as a Mechanical Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, General Superintendent, Foreman, or similar field leadership position
Experience managing large‑scale commercial construction projects and multiple trades
Strong understanding of construction sequencing, manpower planning, scheduling, and field productivity
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, coordination drawings, and construction documents
Experience coordinating with General Contractors, Project Managers, subcontractors, and other trades
Strong understanding of construction safety, quality control, and applicable codes
Excellent leadership, communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast‑paced construction environment
Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar construction technology
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project locations as required
Experience overseeing large‑scale commercial mechanical or MEP projects
Experience with projects ranging from $2M to $50M+
Strong hands‑on knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, hydronic piping, equipment installation, and mechanical systems
Experience with BIM/VDC coordination and clash‑resolution processes
Experience with project startup, testing, commissioning, and closeout
OSHA 30 certification
Previous experience working for a commercial mechanical contractor
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience strongly considered
