How to Join Our Team

As a General PME Inspector:

  • Starting pay based on experience and certifications, ranging from $23.57/hr to $37.00/hr
  • Two years’ experience in the construction industry
  • Note: A 4-year degree in an architectural, engineering, or construction-related field may qualify you for a probationary level II certificate

As a Senior PME Inspector:

  • Starting pay based on experience and certifications, ranging from $26.33/hr to $44.76/hr
  • Must hold a Standard Level III Building Inspections certificate
  • Five years of experience in the construction industry

Typical Day
  • Fieldwork with limited supervision
  • Review construction plans for compliance
  • Assist customers and answer questions about codes and procedures
  • Troubleshoot site issues and collaborate in pre-submittal meetings
  • Communicate with architects, engineers, and homeowners

Inspectors are based out of one of three Regional Centers throughout the County.

About Wake County

Wake County, NC, with over one million residents, is rapidly growing and home to the Research Triangle Park and several universities. We provide building inspections and permitting services for unincorporated areas and contracted towns, with 50,000–60,000 inspections annually.

Basic Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Five years of construction experience
  • Standard Level III Code Official Certification in one of the trades at hire; remaining trades within four years
  • Equivalent education and experience accepted

  • Inspector prequalification from NC Department of Insurance
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows

Work Schedule: Mon–Fri, 7:15 am–4:00 pm

Hiring Range: $23.57–$44.76/hr

Market Range: $28.96–$49.24/hr
