CMTA invites students in New York City to join our 2027 Summer Internship program. Working in our in-office setting (hybrid schedule with Friday WFH), interns will gain hands-on experience in plumbing and fire protection building systems design, alongside seasoned engineers.

Ideal candidates are pursuing ME or Fire Protection Eng, with familiarity in AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, and Revit, and strong teamwork, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering.
• Junior standing preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP and Revit.

Responsabilités

• Assist engineers with plumbing and fire protection design tasks for building projects.
• Support development and modification of engineering drawings.
• Assist with design and layout of plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Attend and assist with field surveys and construction inspections.
• Review contractor shop drawings and project documentation.
• Develop understanding of relevant codes and standards.

CMTA, formerly known as AMA Group, is looking to fill our 2027 Summer Internship program in our New York City office. We are seeking students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering field who are interested in gaining hands- on experience in plumbing and fire protection building systems design.

Location: New York City, NY
Schedule: In Office, Monday–Thursday; WFH on Friday
Level: Intern

Internship Program

The internship program is designed to provide students with a positive work and training experience aligned with their education and career goals. Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineering Interns will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands- on experience in both office and field settings while contributing to active client projects.

Key Responsibilities

As a Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineering Intern, you will:

• Assist engineers with plumbing and fire protection design tasks for building projects.
• Support the development and modification of engineering drawings.
• Assist with the design and layout of plumbing and fire protection systems.
• Attend and assist with field surveys and construction inspections.
• Assist with the review of contractor shop drawings.
• Develop an understanding of plumbing and fire protection systems and their application within building projects.
• Gain familiarity with applicable building, plumbing, and fire protection codes and standards.
• Conduct research and analysis to support project development.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with reports and project updates.
• Collaborate with engineers and other project team members to support project goals and deadlines.
• Participate in training and learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• Junior standing preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, and/or Revit.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team- oriented environment.
