Position: Staff Plumbing/Fire Protection Designer

SFCS, a collaborative and innovative design firm dedicated to creating Living, Learning, and Healing Environments, is seeking a qualified candidate for our Roanoke office. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in designing plumbing and fire protection systems for various building types.

The candidate should demonstrate proficiency in AutoCAD and/or REVIT (REVIT preferred), Microsoft Office, and possess a solid understanding of national plumbing codes, building codes, and NFPA standards related to plumbing and fire protection system design. The role involves working closely with senior staff to develop plans and specifications for construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Meet with architects and team members to determine appropriate plumbing and fire protection systems, locations, and preliminary cost estimates.
2. Conduct fieldwork to inform design decisions, including system layout, calculations, and sizing of piping and equipment.
3. Coordinate with architects, clients, and other engineering disciplines during design and production.
4. Perform system design calculations for plumbing and fire protection systems.
5. Prepare contract documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit; experience with HydraCad/HydraCALC is a plus.
6. Develop technical construction specifications to support project designs.
7. Assist in construction administration tasks such as shop drawing review, site visits, and responding to field questions.
8. Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards.
9. Maintain strong communication skills and manage multiple project phases simultaneously.
10. Provide excellent client service and ensure project scope adherence.
11. Commit to ongoing education and skill development.

Qualifications:

1. Associate's Degree in a related engineering/science discipline; a graduate degree or Professional Engineer license is a plus.
2. Certification from ASPE (CPDT, CPD) or ability to obtain within one year.
3. LEED certification is advantageous.
