Job Title: Staff Plumbing/Fire Protection Designer

SFCS, a collaborative and innovative design firm dedicated to creating next-generation Living, Learning, and Healing Environments, is seeking a qualified candidate for our Louisville office. Position Overview

The successful candidate will have 10+ years of experience in designing plumbing and fire protection systems for buildings. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or REVIT (REVIT preferred), Microsoft Office, and knowledge of relevant plumbing, building, and NFPA codes are required. The role involves working directly with senior staff to develop plans and specifications for construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

1. Meet with architects and team members to determine appropriate plumbing and fire protection systems, locations, and preliminary cost estimates.
2. Conduct fieldwork to inform design decisions, including system layout, calculations, and sizing of piping and equipment.
3. Coordinate with architects, clients, and other engineering disciplines during design and production phases.
4. Perform design calculations for plumbing and fire protection systems.
5. Prepare contract documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit, with HydraCAD/HydraCALC experience as a plus.
6. Develop technical construction specifications supporting project designs and drawings.
7. Assist in construction administration tasks such as shop drawing reviews, site visits, cost evaluations, and field queries.
8. Ensure all designs comply with applicable plumbing, building codes, and NFPA standards.
9. Maintain strong communication skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
10. Provide excellent client interface and organizational skills to ensure quality service delivery.
11. Show enthusiasm for ongoing education and skill development.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in engineering, science, or related field; a graduate degree or Professional Engineer license is a plus.
• Certification such as ASPE CPDT or CPD preferred, or ability to obtain within one year.
• LEED certification is a plus.
