Job summary

CMTA's Plumbing Engineering Internship in Los Angeles offers hands-on experience in designing building plumbing systems. You will work with engineers on design tasks, drawings, field surveys, and project documentation in-office with some field exposure.

The program targets Mechanical Engineering students, junior status preferred, with familiarity in AutoCAD/AutoCAD MEP/Revit and strong Word/Excel skills. Relocation not provided; in-office schedule is Monday-Thursday with Friday work-from-home.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• Junior standing preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, and/or Revit.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• As a Plumbing Engineering Intern, you will assist engineers with plumbing design tasks for building projects.
• Support the development and modification of engineering drawings.
• Assist with the design and layout of plumbing systems.
• Attend and assist with field surveys and construction inspections.
• Assist with the review of contractor shop drawings.
• Develop an understanding of plumbing systems and their application within building projects.
• Gain familiarity with applicable building and plumbing codes and standards.
• Conduct research and analysis to support project development.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with reports and project updates.
• Collaborate with engineers and other project team members to support project goals and deadlines.
• Participate in training and learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.

Job description

CMTA, formerly known as AMA Group, is looking to fill our 2027 Summer Internship program in our Los Angeles office. We are seeking students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in plumbing building systems design.

Location: Los Angeles, CA
Schedule: In Office, Monday-Thursday; WFH on Friday
Pay Range: $23-$24 per hour
Level: Intern

Internship Program

The internship program is designed to provide students with a positive work and training experience aligned with their education and career goals. Plumbing Engineering Interns will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands‑on experience in both office and field settings while contributing to active client projects.
