Job summary

The NYC School Construction Authority is seeking an engineer to design plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial school projects. The role requires a valid New York State Professional Engineer license and experience with multi-disciplinary designs.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Design plumbing and fire protection systems including domestic water, water treatment, drainage, storm drainage, pumping, natural gas distribution, special fire suppression systems, acid waste and vent systems.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary design with architects, electrical, mechanical, and other consultants for commercial school projects.
  • Prepare scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary, and construction documents, including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Lead or supervise design teams, including Associate Engineers and Technical Inspectors, on projects ranging from modernizations and additions to large primary and intermediate schools.
  • Ensure compliance with codes and standards, manage project schedules, and perform design reviews of work prepared by other engineers and architects.
  • Support development of new design standards and procedures and sign, seal, and file engineering drawings when required.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree in civil, mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering.
  • Valid New York State Professional Engineer license.
  • Level B: minimum three years paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer, including two years as a project engineer or team leader.
  • Level C: minimum six years paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer, including three years as a project engineer or team leader.
  • Minimum three years experience designing plumbing and fire protection systems for commercial buildings of medium to large size.
  • Proficiency in Revit MEP.
  • Familiarity with IPC, UPC, CPC, ASPE standards, LEED water efficiency, and NFPA codes.
