Job description

Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress.

Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that.

Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive.

This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale.

We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life.

If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.

What you’ll do
  • Lead plumbing system design and analysis — domestic water, sanitary/waste, grease waste, natural gas, and fire protection coordination — for new and retrofit facilities across Atoms' portfolio.
  • Prepare plumbing calculations, drawings, and specifications for permit submission across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Design and size grease interceptors, hot water systems, and process piping for high-volume commercial kitchen and food production facilities.
  • Partner with Structural, Building Design, Civil, and MEP consultant teams to resolve system conflicts and keep designs constructible and cost-effective.
  • Review and respond to plan check comments from Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and utility/water providers to keep permitting on schedule.
  • Evaluate vendor and manufacturer plumbing and fixture submittals for code compliance and site suitability.
  • Support construction administration, including RFIs, submittal review, and field observation for plumbing systems.
  • Build and refine standardized plumbing details and design templates that can be reused across Atoms' different business lines to support rapid, repeatable deployment.
What we’re looking for
  • 7–10 years of plumbing engineering experience, including design for commercial, industrial, or food service facilities
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; ability to obtain additional state licensure/reciprocity as needed
  • Demonstrated experience with domestic water, sanitary/waste, grease waste, and gas piping system design
  • Working knowledge of IPC/UPC plumbing code, local amendments, and relevant health department requirements for food facilities
  • Experience preparing permit-ready plumbing drawings and independently managing AHJ plan review cycles
