Job summary

AMPAM in California is expanding its Plumbing Engineering team and seeking experienced Design Engineer II or III to design plumbing systems for multifamily communities from concept through construction. You will collaborate with architects, PMs, field teams, and fellow engineers, using AutoCAD and Revit to develop models and documentation.

The role offers growth toward senior engineering responsibilities, licensure support, and exposure to large, complex projects across California.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience designing plumbing or building systems within an MEP consulting or design-build environment.
• Experience with multifamily residential projects is highly desirable; however, candidates with commercial, healthcare, hospitals, higher education, or other complex buildings are encouraged to apply.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or active licensure pursuit is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design plumbing systems for multifamily and other complex building projects from schematic design through construction documents.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical drawings, and construction documentation.
• Develop and coordinate plumbing system models using AutoCAD and Revit.
• Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
• Participate in BIM coordination, project meetings, and design reviews.
• Research plumbing materials, equipment, and system solutions to support project objectives.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and support construction administration activities.
• Apply plumbing codes, engineering standards, and sustainable design principles.

What You'll Do

• Design plumbing systems for multifamily and other complex building projects from schematic design through construction documents.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical drawings, and construction documentation.
• Develop and coordinate plumbing system models using AutoCAD and Revit.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience designing plumbing or building systems within an MEP consulting or design-build environment.
• Experience with multifamily residential projects is highly desirable; however, candidates with commercial, healthcare, hospitals, higher education, hospitality, mixed-use, or other complex building experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or active pursuit of licensure is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Strong understanding of plumbing systems and building design principles.
• Ability to prepare engineering calculations and construction documents.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Compensation

The expected hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $130,000 annually. Actual compensation will depend on level, experience, certifications and technical expertise.
