Job summary

Northern Virginia Community College is seeking a Plumber Assistant to support plumbing operations on campus. This part-time role will assist with installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems, ensuring work aligns with applicable codes and safety standards.

The successful candidate will help in emergency response, daily tasks, and coordination with the campus senior plumber, contributing to reliable campus facilities management.

Qualifications

• Ability to work with little supervision and make sound decisions independently.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of heating and plumbing operations.
• Basic to intermediate skill in use of plumbing tools including hand tools, pipe threading machines, heating and soldering torches, drills, roto-hammers, and sewer rodding machines.
• Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Microsoft Office Suites, and maintenance work order system.
• Ability to communicate proficiently in English language.
• Knowledge of basic math to perform day-to-day tasks.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs regularly.
• Ability to function in cramped environments.
• Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
• Ability to follow safety guidelines at all times.
• Detail-oriented with strong mechanical, critical thinking and communication skills.
• Ability to show physical endurance during lifting tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining plumbing systems and perform new pipe and fixture installations in line with codes.
• Provide economical and safe plumbing services to campus.
• Complete work orders with priorities set by supervisor and campus senior plumber.
• Be available to assist with emergency work on weekends and holidays if required.
• Assist with basic maintenance, troubleshoot and repair plumbing systems with campus senior plumber.
• Support emergency operations.
