Job summary

Louisiana State University is seeking a Plumber/Pipefitter Master to lead advanced plumbing operations across 150+ buildings, including critical research facilities. This on-site role requires deep knowledge of high/low pressure steam, chilled water, and waste systems, with responsibility for installation, repair, and preventive maintenance.

You will fabricate and install piping in cast iron, steel, copper, or plastics, read complex drawings, and supervise maintenance work.

Qualifications

• Three years of pipefitting, steam fitting, or plumbing experience on the job.
• Valid driver’s license; MVR check and drug screens required.
• Safety sensitive and emergency essential position; background checks required.
• Ability to report to campus during emergencies as needed.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain utility systems: steam, condensate, sanitary sewer, chilled water, and domestic water.
• Fabricate, install, and repair piping materials (cast iron, steel, copper, PVC, HDPE).
• Troubleshoot blockages and operate high-pressure cleaning equipment for proper flow.
• Install piping from complex drawings using copper, cast iron, plastic, and steel.
• Maintain pressure regulators, gauges, steam traps, valves, and related components.

Job Description:

This is a fast-paced, highly visible advanced journeyman position that requires superior technical knowledge of all facets of plumbing systems and related fixtures and components. The area of responsibility assigned to this position includes more than 150 major buildings, including multi-story critical research facilities spread over several hundred acres and encompassing more than 8,500,000 square feet of floor space.

Job Duties:

60%- Repairs, troubleshoots, modifies, and maintains utility systems, including high/low pressure steam, high/low pressure condensate, fire protection mains, sanitary sewer, compressed air, chilled water supply/return, domestic hot/cold water, storm water, and heating water supply/return. Work skills include fabrication, installation, and repair of different piping materials, including cast iron, steel, copper, and plastic (PVC, PE, HDPE, etc.) to above and below ground systems, including tunnel installation.

10%- Troubleshoots system blockages for sewer and drainage piping. Operates high pressure water and blast cleaning equipment to restore proper flow characteristics.

10%- Installs piping system from complex drawings and specifications requiring knowledge of fabrication and assembly techniques of copper, cast iron, plastic, and steel materials.

5%- Installs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on pressure regulators, pressure gauges, steam traps, safety relief valves, flow meters, thermal expansion joints, check valves, and block valves.

5%- Performs multiple trade skills related to plumbing, such as thermal insulation, welding, soldering, excavation, shoring/backfilling, underground pipe coatings, and cathodic protection.

5%- Operates natural gas leak detectors, underground pipe locators, welding machines, and trackhoe/backhoes.

5%-Prepares material and purchase requisitions. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience: Three years of experience or training in pipefitting, steam fitting, or plumbing.

Special or Physical Qualifications:

• This position requires a valid driver’s license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
• This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
• This position is considered emergency essential and may be required to report to campus in times of emergency and/or closure per PS-18.
• This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required.
