This position is responsible for maintaining the total hydrology, steam, gas & sewerage distribution systems throughout the company’s facilities. The primary duties include preventative maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting using specialized test equipment and hand/power tools.
Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and installations for plumbing systems such as water, sewer, steam, air, medical gas, vacuum, and fire protection.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on plumbing components and document activities in accordance with department procedures.
- Assist outside contractors during major utility repairs or new construction projects.
- Help facilities management staff troubleshoot and repair equipment related to facility infrastructure.
- Read specifications, interpret schematics, blueprints, and mechanical drawings.
Qualifications & Certifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Trade school training in plumbing or pipe fitting.
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial or industrial experience.
- Current Louisiana State Journeymen Plumbers license (required).
- Medical Gas and Back‑Flow Certification (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication with the ability to present information clearly.
- Knowledge of state, parish, and local building codes.
- Proficient drawing skills for documenting plumbing changes on CADD.
- Ability to safely use all power, hand tools, and specialized equipment related to plumbing/pipe fitting.
- Interpersonal skills to deal effectively and courteously with a diverse group of internal and external callers and visitors.
- Capacity to handle mental and physical stress and pressure, including emergency situations.
- Ability to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces with static postures for extended periods.
- Ability to work extended hours and be on call for emergencies.
Physical & Environmental Demands
- Occasional lifting of 20–50 pounds and frequent lifting of 10–25 pounds.
- Continuous light exertion required for walking, standing, or pushing/pulling with negligible weight.
- Work may involve exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste.
