Job description

Position: Plumber Maintenance I - United States Army, Fort Meade

Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of master plumbing duties, including installing, repairing, and modifying water supply, sewage disposal, gas distribution, oil lines, fire suppression, and similar utility systems and equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Install, modify, repair, and maintain utility, supply, and disposal systems such as sewage, water, oil, & gas distribution systems, water closets, backflow prevention devices/assemblies, fire sprinkler systems, and showers.
  2. Plan and execute work from initial layout to final assembly, interpreting building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and plumbing codes, using shop mathematics.
  3. Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot/test plumbing systems and equipment, including backflow prevention devices like reduced pressure principle devices, double check devices, atmospheric vacuum breakers, and other cross-connection devices.
  4. Utilize and maintain tools such as tapes, rules, plumb bobs, pipe threaders, cutters, pipe wrenches, drills, hacksaws, power saws, sewer cleaning equipment, gas detectors, meters, and lead pots.
Supervision

None exercised; receives supervision from the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor.

Physical Qualifications

Work involves repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, often in hard-to-reach areas. Requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring positions. Must be able to lift and carry parts and equipment up to 40 pounds unassisted and over 40 pounds with assistance. Personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats may be required.

Education and Experience

Five to seven years of experience in installation or contracting in a related field. Must hold a Journeyman Plumber license. Ability to pass and maintain a government security background clearance. Working knowledge of MAXIMO or other CMMS software.
