REPORTS TO : Director of Maintenance

SUPERVISES : None

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : 12 months

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Graduation from High School or equivalency, with vocational training in plumbing and utility work
  • One to two years of experience in water utility maintenance
  • Valid North Carolina Driver License
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the plumbing field, or any equivalent training and experience which provides the required skills,knowledge, and abilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • Repairs and replaces broken water lines; un-stops sewer lines and drains; clears commode and sink drains.
  • Performs maintenance and installation functions associated with all water system equipment.
  • Measures, cuts, threads, assembles, and installs pipes and tubing.
  • Connects valves, caulks, joints, and tests finished job by allowing water to flow through.
  • Installs water, sanitary fixtures, and equipment with supports, hangers, or foundations.
  • Eliminates leaks by repacking valves or by replacing faulty fittings or sections in line.
  • Replaces worn parts and makes corrections as needed.
  • Replaces and repairs hot water tanks; repairs garbage disposals; repairs circulating pumps; replaces booster heaters, gas water heaters, and piping.
  • Repairs shower valves, shutoff valves, fountain coolers, and mixing valves.
  • Ensures the safe and efficient operation of fixtures, apparatus, and other elements of water distribution.
  • Requests, maintains, and is responsible for the inventory and accountability of material, tools, repair parts and equipment assigned and that is issued for use.
  • Inventories all tools and equipment yearly and submits results to Maintenance Director.
  • Responsible for ensuring assigned automotive equipment is operated and maintained as outlined in applicable district procedures.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS :The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Plumber II job classification within Martin County Schools.Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Must be able to:

  • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch
  • Work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions
  • Use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perception
  • Visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
  • Use a variety of measuring devices
  • Assemble or fabricate parts at or within arm’s length
  • Operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job specific equipment and tools
  • Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
  • Observe general surroundings and activities
  • Hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
  • Use communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideas
  • Safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
