Job summary

St. Edward's University in Austin, TX seeks a Journeyman Plumber to perform skilled maintenance, repair, and installations of plumbing systems. The role requires reading blueprints, interpreting drawings, and conducting cost estimates for repairs and new work.

Responsibilities include maintaining potable water systems and fire hydrants, testing work, and supervising others on major jobs when needed. A Texas license and background check are required; on-call duties and early/late hours may apply.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Plumber License and a minimum of three years related experience including demonstrable experience in maintenance plumbing.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting/repair of Sloan flush meters and Delta tub/shower valves.
  • Must be willing to be licensed in backflow prevention and fire hydrant testing.
  • Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and be insurable by the university carrier.
  • Must be able to read, interpret, and work from blueprints and prepare rough sketches of work to be performed.
  • Prior use of jackhammers, sewer auger, pipe threading machine, and miscellaneous plumbing hand and power tools required.
  • Knowledge of gas/electric welding preferred.
  • Successful completion of an employment and/or criminal history background check is required.

  • Installation and repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures;
  • Operation and maintenance of pumps and water distribution systems, hot and cold-water systems and similar components, and water wells.
  • Maintenance and repair of potable water systems, sewer lift stations, laboratory water systems, emergency fire lines and hydrants, backflow preventers, and water wells.
  • Testing of completed work and conducting necessary adjustments;
  • Performs periodic inspections of systems for safe and efficient operation;
  • Development of material, labor, and total costs estimate of repair and installation jobs;
  • Creates reports that detail the time and materials required to repair and maintain equipment;
  • System operation record maintenance;
  • May direct others on major installations and repair jobs.

St. Edward's University is currently searching for a journeyman plumber. This position is primarily responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing.

Responsible for regulatory and policy compliance as it applies to the position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

  • Maintain confidentiality.
Working Conditions:
  • The ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends to meet the needs of the department.
  • Work schedule will be determined with hiring supervisor; however, scheduled days and hours may change for special events.
  • Must be available for on-call duty on a rotating basis and have dependable transportation.
  • This position is considered to be essential personnel and may be called in duringemergency closures.
