Job summary

The Plumber III at Jacksonville State University provides journeyman level work in the installation and maintenance of plumbing and heating systems in state buildings. Supervision may be exercised over helpers and assignments are given by oral or written instruction or job orders. Work hours are 7:30 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, with some evenings and weekends for special events. The position starts September 21, 2026 and offers a salary of $48,276.80 - $50,980.80 commensurate with

• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• Experience as a journeyman plumber or completion of an apprenticeship in the trade.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, and repairs water lines, sewers, lavatories, commodes, gas lines, gas heaters, steam lines, steam fixtures, and heating plant boilers in university buildings.
• Greases and oils all pumps and motors on the water system and repairs pumps.
• Maintains boilers and drains/inspects them twice annually.
• Moves between campus buildings.
• Performs related work as required.

Job Summary:

Supervision may be exercised over helpers and assignments are received in the form of oral or written instruction or job orders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Installs, maintains, and repairs water lines, sewers, lavatories, commodes, gas lines, gas heaters, steam lines, steam fixtures, and heating plant boilers in one or more University buildings.
• Greases and oils all pumps and motors on the water system and repairs pumps.
• Maintains boilers as well as draining and inspecting them twice annually.
• Moves from building to building on campus.
• Performs related work as required.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: Graduation from a high school.
• Experience as a journeyman plumber or completion of an apprenticeship in the trade.
