Job description

Job Title: Plumber-First Class (1101) - B&B/Bridges & Buildings

We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Plumber-First Class in the B&B/Bridges & Buildings department at SEPTA, the sixth largest transportation system in the United States.

Overall Description

The successful candidate will assemble, install, repair, inspect, and test pipes, fittings, fixtures, and systems related to heating, water, drainage, fire equipment, and alarm systems, following specifications and plumbing codes.

Specific Responsibilities

• Install and repair plumbing in various systems including street water and sewer connections, ejectors, drain lines, sprinkler pipes, rain conductors, gas and gasoline pipe tanks, air pipes, and lubrication oil pipes.
• Install pipe and boiler insulation, brass and copper tubing, fittings, and related equipment.
• Inspect and test fire equipment, alarm systems, grounds, and vehicles.
• Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, report hazards, and promote safety among team members.

Qualifications and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and related systems, including heating and water units. Ability to create shop drawings, layout work, and complete reports.
• Successful completion of qualification tests: basic mathematics, blueprint reading, and use of plumbing tools.
• Valid Philadelphia journeyman's card and driver's license; CDL permit required within 60 days.
• Ability to work in truck-mounted buckets up to 30 feet high and climb extension ladders (~20 feet).
